Jane's Historical Kitchen
Bringing a Taste of History to You
Step back in time with Jane's Historical Kitchen, a unique culinary experience offering authentic, historically-inspired food and living history displays for events, schools, heritage sites, and re-enactments across the UK. Based in Puckeridge, Hertfordshire, and proudly part of the A1 Historical Events group, we are passionate about making the past come alive - through food, clothing, performance, and presentation.
Run by husband and wife team Peter and Tracey Grand, Jane's Historical Kitchen is more than just historical catering. With over 20 years of combined experience in historical education, re-enactment, and performance, we specialise in period-accurate displays and engaging experiences for all ages.
Whether you are planning a school visit, a heritage open day, a public event, or a themed party, we offer immersive food experiences spanning from Anglo-Saxon feasts to Georgian delicacies. Using authentic ingredients and preparation methods where possible, our historical kitchen showcases the smells, flavours, and techniques that shaped daily life in eras past.
But we are more than just a kitchen.
We work closely with the following groups and individuals:
- Lady Jane's Historical Clothing - Beautiful, hand-crafted period costumes and living history demonstrations.
- Hiow-Beorht - Authentic Anglo-Saxon storytelling and cultural displays.
- House of Bayard - Re-enactment group specialising in medieval and renaissance interpretation.
- Wellington's Artillery - A Napoleonic artillery re-enactment team bringing explosive history to life!
- The Thyme Keeper - Our historical herb and apothecary display, exploring medieval and Tudor healing traditions.
From a full working camp kitchen to costumed interpreters, Jane's Historical Kitchen and the wider A1 Historical Events family offer rich, engaging, and educational content for history lovers, schools, and event organisers.
